About Joe
In January 2025, Joe was appointed by the Urbandale City Council to fill the Council seat vacated by Larry McBurney, who was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives. He is now seeking a four-year term on the City Council.
Before being appointed to the City Council, Joe served for three years on the Urbandale Zoning Board of Adjustment. He has been a civil trial attorney in private practice for over 32 years. Joe has also served on the Board of Governors of the Iowa Association for Justice, as Chairperson of the Litigation Section of the Iowa State Bar Association, as a coach for Urbandale High School Mock Trial, as a coach of youth baseball and basketball teams, and as a volunteer for various community organizations.
Joe was born and raised in the Des Moines metro, and has resided in Urbandale for over 18 years with his wife, Jackie. Urbandale is where Joe and Jackie raised their two adult children, Veronica and Charlie. He enjoys cycling, hiking, baseball, and live music.
Joe earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Northern Iowa, and a law degree from Drake University Law School.
